Germander speedwell is a low growing plant with bright blue flowers and a white middle. They have four leaves, 3 the same size and one slightly smaller. It grows in large clumps in hedgerows, roadside verges and grassy lanes.

It is thought to give travellers good luck which is where its name “speedwell” comes from. It is an excellent source of nectar for solitary bees as well was other pollinators.

    1. I’m sorry to tell that it is only native to Europe. It may have been planted in a garden by a traveller.
