5 best places to eat in Alnmouth

Alnmouth is a small coastal village in North Northumberland.

It is well known for its beautiful beach, historic harbour and terrace of houses painted in pastel colours.

Alnmouth has a vibrant pub and restaurant scene all year round but is particularly lively in the summer.

This is my 5 best (not in any particular order) places to eat in Alnmouth.

The Whittling House

The Whittling House is a relatively new addition to Alnmouth. They source only the best Northumbrian produce and the Head Chef and his expert team create an amazing menu.

There is a dog friendly area in the restaurant although space in this area isn’t guaranteed.

The restaurant is open seven days a week with breakfast available every day, the A La Carte Menu Monday to Saturday and a roast menu on a Sunday.

The Hope and Anchor is has a dog friendly bar area and its own Italian restaurant. The staff are really friendly and the food is great.

The restaurant has its own wood fired pizza oven and provides a take away service for both pizzas and fish and chips.

The brightest coloured restaurant on the Main Street of Alnmouth serves a wide variety of food based on local fresh ingredients.

The open fire in the bar is a welcome sight in the winter.

Bistro 23

Bistro 23 is again on the Main Street of Alnmouth. During the day (not on Tuesdays) it is a busy tearoom serving a delicious selection of local produce.

In the evenings (depending on the season) The Tearoom transforms into Bistro 23 aiming to deliver the very best produce, taste and hospitality Northumberland has to offer, sourced from local farms, rivers, coast & gardens.

The reviews of this restaurant are fantastic and whenever I’ve been the food and the staff have been great.

The Red Lion is the host of the annual Alnmouth Beer festival and this year was voted one of the top ten place cosiest pubs in Britain.

It serves food from either the wood fired pizza oven or the lunch/evening menu. It is advised to pre book to avoid disappointment as it can be very busy.

One of the many attractions of the Red Lion is its massive garden behind the main building. Visitors can enjoy a beverage while enjoying views of the Alnmouth estuary.
